Community Grants

In 2008, as part of the Washington Health Information Collaborative, the Washington State Health Care Authority has awarded additional grants of about $50,000 each to spur community-wide efforts to engage providers and patients in improved health care connectivity. News release about all WHIC grants in 2008.

As of October 2008, the five Community Grant recipients are:

  1. Inland Northwest Health Services
  2. The South Sound Health Communication Network
  3. Kittitas Valley Community Hospital
  4. Medical Information Network - North Sound (Anacortes)
  5. The NATIVE Project (Spokane)

The grants are intended to be used for efforts such as:

 

1. Engaging providers on practice redesign around health information technology (IT) to improve clinical practice; 

 

2. Using community champions to promote health IT adoption and practice redesign around health IT use;

 

3. Providing consulting services to providers and critical access hospitals for practice redesign around appropriate health IT utilization to improve patient care outcomes; and

4. Developing strategies to align reimbursement methodologies to encourage health IT adoption and practice redesign.
