2009 Health Information Technology Grants

for Washington Patient-Centered Medical Home Collaborative Participants

WHIC awarded grants up to $7,000 each for programming or technical support to enhance, modify or expand existing electronic health record system or registry data collection, management, and reporting capabilities for providers participating in the Medical Home Collaborative. Grant recipients were announced in September 2009 for this round of funding.

First Choice Health, the Washington State Health Care Authority, Qualis Health and the Puget Sound Health Alliance continue to join forces to offer financial incentives and consulting support to eligible applicants who are adopting and expanding health information technology (IT) in their practices.

Funding is help clinics and other providers reduce costs associated with health IT adoption for primary care and speciality practices, plus critical access hospitals. Qualis Health offers technical assistance and advice to the grantees, related to:

  • Practice redesign to accommodate effective use of health IT,
  • Using health IT to support the medical home model of primary care, and
  • Using health IT to improve performance and reporting results.

The Washington State Health Care Authority provided up to $50,000 for this round of grants. The initial funding for 2009 was provided by First Choice Health.  WHIC partners - Qualis Health, First Choice Health, Washington State Health Care Authority, and the Puget Sound Health Alliance - work together to provide funding, consulting, and support services to grant awardees. We encourage other organizations to help fund the awards to promote adoption of electronic medical records and other information technology by clinics and hospitals. More about WHIC.
